I think it was rumoured that whatever the second video even was, it actually was worse than this one.

This is a few years after Artie left the show, which left a massive gap they could never fill. I think Howie got frustrated that the show wasn't as relevant anymore and decided that to try and make up for Artie's absence, he going to turn the show into the number one destination for A listers. This entire talk was pretty much about how they could got about attracting bigger name guests and more often, a lot of it horribly cringe ideas like creating fake Twitter accounts and writing them letters.

It's clear to me that he'd watched Steve Jobs keynote speeches and thought "I can do that", but it was just horrible. Half the stuff on his slides were misspelt or just amateurish little clipart illustrations and it was all just veiled threats instead of anything actually inspiring.

I like how he told them all to dress smarter but they also had to have the show logo plastered all over them. The whole thing was just nonsensical.

The rumor was that they had offered Stuttering John a 3 year deal worth a few million. It was enough for him to justify taking his whole family to live in LA. Artie even said on the air that he told him “as a comic and friend” you can’t not take the deal but you have to tell Howard. His house was beautiful in Artie’s words. Howard and Tom Chiausanno wouldn’t let it go on air while John was still there that he didn’t ask them to match a ridiculously high offer before the official announcement. Howard then went scorched earth on Leno which probably lead to Norton being a frequent guest.
Edit: the Milkcrate Marauder channel on YouTube has a bunch of great John compilations and the last two or so include all the shows where this happens. Douchebag needs to keep his “funny” skits to a minimum though.
