It did except for Conservative talk radio and Sports there in the dumps
This is true, the people I know that still have Sirius listen to the sports channel and maybe some of the music but mostly for sports. I’ve also read the conservative talk channels get much more listeners than the liberal ones.

They do have some good Music channels but the majority of the channels play the same shit as regular radio just without commercials - especially the rock channels. How many fucking times do you to hear Foghat’s Slow Ride?! I remember early on they played more “deep tracks” from artists but not anymore. Even Ozzy’s boneyard channel plays the same Ozzy / sabbath stuff you hear on classic rock FM radio.

I paid once in 2004. Then I paid $300 for Howard’s channels after the merger and 1 $50 payment to move my sub to a new car. I also have a 5 year old car that is still running the free trial after 4 1/2 years. I get the phone app free for when I rent a car and a portable radio that hooks up to any radio. Now I’m just waiting for them to go bankrupt. I bet if I sue them for my $1500 back I’d get $20 from the eventual settlement.

I remember they had some kind of “lifetime” subscription offer back when Stern signed. Love to know how much it was and how many paid for it.

I had a lifetime sub from xm. I paid around $1000 for a car account and a portable radio account. When they merged I paid another $300 for Howard’s channels. I’ve kept the car account active for 4 cars so far. So it’s been over 20 years for under $1500. I got an account for my dad, he cancelled when he changed cars and they offered him $1 per month on another sub for his new car. My wife has a new car account that has fewer channels but has never been shut off. They are padding their sub numbers for advertising

Yeah I remember hearing about the “lifetime” subs but they didn’t offer them for long. They are 100% padding the numbers - mostly with new car sales and I know for some certified pre-owned cars they even give a trial (turn it back on) which also gets counted. It’s quite something if you call them and say you want to cancel they just give it to you for free or next to nothing.

My lifetime subs were $500 each for both XM and Sirius back in 2004. When they merged they tried to void them both. Then they tried to void them when one of the radios failed and it needed to be replaced. Had to do some serious legal wrangling to preserve both subs. The current Sirius line of programming is not really worth the money unless you are hardcore into live sports. As internet streaming has everything else plus podcasts.

Imagine paying $500 for a lifetime subscription of HBO or NFL/MLB package or whatever. Incredibly stupid for a company to offer lifetime deals like those. A few airlines once offered lifetime unlimited travel and were losing millions on each deal and had to pull them (the lifetime tickets were even in the hundreds of thousands of dollars).

They tried to tell me lifetime meant lifetime of the radio. I fought that once by refusing to buy the car. The second time I just bugged them.
