How much money were Opie & Anthony making throughout their run?

I listened to this shit earlier and it really shows how dumb the breakfast ordering process was. BABY BOY Jim Norton needing egg whites, three grown ass men paying three different ways. Danny, Travis and Than all working for free.

These motherfuckers were worth millions and had a business together. Why wasn’t there just a company card used to buy the talent and the guests food in the morning? Leave it to a jew like Kenny to need to become a financial middleman in breakfast transactions.

Or you know, rotate who pays like how blue collar guys who make 60k a year do. Jim is such a fag.

You seemed to care about him quite a bit in this fight you two had, Mr. Negative Energy.
"We used to joke around at CBS all the time A-And...y-...It was always...It was always Sam time and you didn't wanna-you-there was never any friendliness with me."

Kenny was never an employee. We were all forced to deal with him under the Opie umbrella. Opie decides somebody might punch him on his way to a blueberry dump, and now we all have to deal with Kenny from 6am to 11am. Kenny was the guy nobody wanted around but he was the "cool kid's friend" so we all had to tolerate him. You wanna talk shit but you also realize that attacking Kenny is attacking Opie as Kenny gets to be the patsy for Opie's desire. He always hated I was friends with Anthony. Hated it.

lulz

so Kenny worked security directly for Opester during the week and then worked for Norton when baby boy went on the road?

I also realized earlier when you said at casino Keith was being paid... so before AntH decided to tap into Keith's police skills in order to have him run a media company, he used to pay him for security everywhere he went too??

>Paying $8 (in mid 00s) for eggwhites and mustard.
Some retard could make that on a hotplate much faster for 30 cents.

Or buy this thing, best purchase I've ever made.
There was a clip I’ve listened to a few times but can’t remember which one exactly where both Opie and Anthony were bitching how they would send out for yogurt with granola from the Parker Meridian hotel everyday. They were outraged that the granola by itself had been raised to $18 and this was a GFC era economy.

Imagine being such a deluded asshole that you’re spending $100 a week minimum on granola on top of spending thousands to have a bodyguard, and apersonal chef while your wife sits at home and does nothing after you work for four hours per day.

The idea that Opie was good with money and frugal is laughable. The guy is up to his eyes balls in expenses with presumably very little income besides riding investments and equity in his house and apartment. The building maintence fee on that condo is more than a lot of people make in a year and he’s been without a dollar of income for almost seven years.

Hi. I did a lot of that as an unpaid intern.

No fuming, I just didn't wanna hang out with Big A and the "Apple Store Guy" and his friends all the time. It became constant show people and I wasn't really about it. Then one day Kurt Love is there with Bobo's sister and you're like, you know what? I don't think I need to be over here anymore. Who made a fuss out of what now? What are you talking about.
I imagine you can't really have an actual human conversation with that freak show. It does make sense why you drink over there. How many girls had braces that came over for those "pool parties"

That poor excuse of a movie theater is probably a house of horrors.

Please, elaborate on your friend hitting that lick on ole Gargoyle face

Why was the American radio market worth so much?

I understand that Hollywood has always exported a lot of content around the world.

But radio?? Where was the money coming from?

I'm doing this off the top of my head, so I may have some dates wrong:
Basically in the mid 90s, the radio market was deregulated. This allowed corporations to buy up hundreds of radio stations. Once they'd done that, they were swimming in money, because they had tons and tons and tons of redundancies. Imaging purchasing a hundred radio stations, firing 98% of the staff, and then replacing it with syndicated content.
Since they'd gone from paying the salaries of thousands of employees to hundreds, all of the profits got concentrated in an arms races to hire the hosts with the biggest numbaz.

From 2000 to 2005, you had nobodies like Mancow and Don and Mike making seven figures. Danny Ross has questioned whether Cumia was making seven figures. But it's farely easy to "suss out" what radio personalities were making during that era, because some of them got divorced and that information was made public in the divorce. For instance, Danny Bonaduce was second mic on the Adam Carolla show, and was making $500K a year: https://people.com/celebrity/danny-bonaduce-to-pay-16000-monthly-in-divorce-agreement/

Bonaduce made an additional $280K a year from his other job. (Both were part time, obviously.)

Bonaduce was never even remotely as popular as Opie and Anthony, so do the math.
And before someone says "maybe Bonaduce is just a really good negotiator", keep in mind that Opie and Anthony, Adam Carolla, Jim Norton, Jimmy Kimmel and Danny Bonaduce all had the same agent, James "Baby Doll" Dixon: https://adamcarolla.com/jon-stewart-james-babydoll-dixon-and-joshua-bell/

(That's part of the reason that the quality of Cumia and Carolla's guests shit the bed, Dixon eventually dropped both of them.)

Dixon on the right

If anyone remembers Opie's fake story about Adam Carolla dissing him in person, the entire reason he was allowed into the studio was because they had the same agent.

Naturally, the gravy train wouldn't last forever. But if you were on the radio from 2000 until 2005, and especially if you were syndicated nationwide, you were making money hand over fist.

It's a little bit ironic that Opie and Anthony contributed to their own demise by helping guys like Joe Rogan and Marc Maron make a name for themselves. If it wasn't for O&A, I doubt Maron would have ever had a top ten podcast.

Rogan already had a career when he started showing up on O&A, but his pivot to doing comedy full time was hardly setting the world on fire. I saw Maron play a show in Hollywood in 2006 and there were about 25 people in the room, with a capacity of about 200.

And we know that Opie lived with roommates and lived in tiny apartments, and drove used cars until married basically, and saved all of his money. He probably never really spent big money in his life until FH Riley's which is why he was so paranoid to keep plugging it on air.

Opie reminds me of the typical suburban millionaire. Has a net worth of 5-20 million but still drives a Honda. Early on in the XM days, I remember hearing him bitch about how expensive his parking spot was, and how he drove a ten year old Acura Integra (MSRP: $18K).

Norton never spent money as poorly as Cumia, but he did brag about his Trump Tower Condo and his BMW SUV, which replaced the Saturn he drove when he lived with his parents.

I would love to know exactly what the financial situation at Compound really is. He had to have been beyond desperate to offer Opie half of the business on at least three occasions that we know of. And he almost assuredly offered Norton something similar if he went over to Anthony's media network full time. No way that the company was making money at any of the times he literally begged Opie like a bitch to come over and help him run Compound Media.

Between paying the various shows. Renting the studio. Renting or purchasing more broadcast equipment. Paying all of the employees behind the scenes. Paying for promotion. And then massive blunders like hiring Artie Lange. It cannot have been a profitable venture. If Compound Media did not even pay for itself then that is beyond pathetic.

I work in tech and I've met hundreds of millionaires and used to work for a billionaire.

Something I've noticed is that it's ridiculously easy for companies to find investors. There's a lot of stupid rich people out there, and they make a lot of stupid investments.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think that Gavin has been bankrolling Compound Media for the better part of the last decade. I think Cumia's attempts to get Opie to buy part of the network were something that Cumia had already accomplished with Gavin. If you remember the last time that Cumia and Opie were ever in the same room together, Gavin was there too. The obvious reason why is because Gavin has a stake in the network.

This makes more sense when you consider that Gavin was fired from Vice, and owned a chunk of it. Because he owned part of it, they had to buy out his stake to make him go away.

This is standard-operating-procedure in tech companies; a lot of guys have become filthy rich because they butted heads with the other stakeholders in the company, and they were sent off on their way with a $100M Golden Parachute.

Gavin has fuck-you money; he's mentioned before that he not only got P-A-I-D by Vice, he also re-invested the money. Sure, some of the investments were dumb (his advertising company, his restaurant.) But Gavin also bought entire apartment buildings.

Even if you consider that Compound Media pays peanuts, there's no way that Cumia could afford to keep the thing running with such a tiny audience, and there's absolutely no way that it's profitable.

I once worked for a startup company that burned through over ten million dollars every year, and our revenues were less than $1000 a month.

opie owns a condo in manhattan and a holiday house in the hamptons; they were absolutely pulling in that much. the difference, however, is that opie managed his money and invested it, whereas cumia blew it on frivolous rubbish like the long island white trash he is. I've also heard he took out a second mortgage on his mansion to pay artie's wage for the a&a show, which obviously did not at all work out, forcing him to sell his home well below market value. he bet his money on the wrong horse, and that's exactly what artie blew his on

Remember when Compound Media was buying billboards to advertise the AA Show? Ouch.

Kenny was Dice's assistant, Norton's strong daddy, and Opie's babysitter. How is it that out of 4 people, Dice is the least retarded?

As weak as Ant is, I assume Keith was there less a bodyguard and moreso as a designated adult/paid friend.
Dice isn’t retarded at all, just very eccentric. There’s a reason why he’s been getting consistent work for decades. Which can’t be said about anyone else in the o&a universe really.
