No, I don't think it is the same as NHS, but it was obviously the first step to nationalized coverage. They sold it by claiming people's premiums would go down due to the amount of new enrollment, but ultimately most premiums drastically increased. And to your point of NHS working before mass importation; the US is currently being overwhelmed by people claiming 'refugee' status. You are welcome to your opinion that universal Healthcare is a good thing, but you'll never convince me that I or most Americans will benefit from it

The NHS is a mess right now. I have a friend that almost got sepsis from his appendix bursting in late 2020, and he's said if it happened even a year later he'd have probably died. People are dying waiting for specialists.

Something interesting about the appendix bursting part; allegedly COVID causes from what I've read, just out of nowhere. Colbert had his appendix burst recently as well (lot of good the vaccines did him) and another celebrity had it happen too a few years ago and they specifically mentioned light-headedness/flu like feeling for a few weeks before. I think studies have been done saying it's something that COVID can just do for no reason.

I went to the doctor with crazy pain and they told me it's likely a stomach virus because they couldn't detect the inflammation after I got scanned. Almost missed the birth of my first kid over that shit

My friend's married but doesn't have a kid so no, but yeah, I've read COVID can just cause appendicitis randomly. The NHS is free at the point of use and is dreadful when you need it, these people still pay for it and then get shit treatment if they need it, so they can pay for health tourists and welfare bums and migrants to get free healthcare. The NHS needs to get privatised more to serve people, but they just pretend it doesn’t and it’s going to miraculously become fit for purpose. It’s not.

I’d rather be in debt with a payment plan for cutting edge healthcare than die in a waiting que behind 300,000 jobless Pakistanis.

There needs to be a better way for both, I agree, I have no idea what it should look like, in my ignorant opinion Germany is great, it’s sort of a mixture of private insurance and state funded care. I worked there a bit and I had the distinct impression it was fantastic. This was 10 years ago or so, it’s probably different now Germany is the Middle East refugee (young men only) camp of Europe.

If we switch to single payer and nationally we end up paying less for premiums/deductibles than before, I'll be happy to eat crow. I just don't think that'll be the case,. I also think the quality of coverage will be lower than it even is now, since there's no real competition
