I still laugh when I think about the dudes in Florida doing squats on the roof of their gym, protesting its closure. Ridiculous though I agree with them in retrospect (have to admit I was a less critical media consumer back then). Imagine the chaos if the liquor stores had been shut?

The gym closures was dumb - sick people don’t go to the gym and they could have spaced things out / X amount of people / masks / etc.

Everything we were told was being done “for our health” yet liquor stores didn’t miss a day while gyms were closed for months.

The UK has universal healthcare and it's OK to a degree, but horrible in a lot of ways. It's down to immigrants gaming the system but number 1 reason is horrible organisation. Bloated management and bureaucracy taking billions of taxpayers readies over staff and equipment.

I live in a Euro country that has basic universal healthcare + health insurance model. My insurance is the top of the line here and costs me around $300 a month. 3 weeks ago my son had a fever and cough he couldn't shake. We took him to the kids' family doctor. She referred him for an x-ray. 30 minutes later he had the results - pneumonia. 10 minutes later he had the antibiotics prescription. Consultation - zero cost. X-ray - zero cost. 2 week course of antibiotics and probiotics - around $15. He's fine now.

There is a happy medium.
