Personally, I found it infuriating how he talked down to everyone as if he was some sort of radio superstar. Meanwhile, we're all in the booth saying to each other "Hey, we should try to find some line of Opie's for line of the day, he hasn't had one in a while." I remember plenty of times he'd fire out some line and look around for approval, and boy oh boy, you'd better be nodding and smiling.

Anyway. Let's just say I'm very glad to see Opie Radio clips of him insisting he's worth high dollar contracts while concurrently amassing a live audience of a few dozen people. I laughed so fucking hard when he said he had a meeting with some company but "the money wasn't there". I'm also glad to see Opie Radio clips of him in full on crisis mode, begging for money. If he had only been less of a dick to the people that made him rich, he'd have some friends, and potentially success outside of Anthony's shadow.

What you don’t seem to realize is that he was a big radio star with his name on the door and all of you low lives were way beneath him. Do you really think he wanted to become friends with any of you? He created a radio show, rode it out for 10 years, put away enough money to fart through silk for the rest of his life and left the rest of you in the dust when it was over. Your issue might be that you didn’t realize how unimportant and replaceable you were until it was too late.

I listened to Patrice O'Neal appearances recently. And it seemed like even Patrice indulged him that way. I don't know if it was friendship or pity. There was one instance where Patrice made a point and Opie just couldn't understand it. After minutes of Opie just not understanding it, Patrice gave up and said that they'd spend a month on the phone over this. Which sounded like him and Opie actually had longer private phone conversations. Did Patrice ever talk openly to you about Opie?
