Gotta remember he was in all the Shrek movies which brought in a ton of money - I’m guessing that money has dried up or was reduced greatly from alimony / ex wife / etc.
You have to remember that most of these actors and actresses are giving away tons of their income to agents, lawyers, publicists, and all other show business jobs. If you want to be in a movie you need to have an agent or you will be shut out of show business. It's just a tax that the industry forces on everyone. You gotta give an (((approved))) agency their ten or twenty percent to work in the industry.

Sports are like that as well. You can sign to a team without an agent. But try getting commercial deals or endorsements without an agent from a top sports management company representing you. It's a big cartel system. Eddie Murphy might have a net worth of $250million according to the press but in reality he probably lost half or more to business agents. And people like Tom Cruise probably give half of their income to Scientology.

There are few big winners in show business.

Adam carolla talked about this. It's almost impossible to catch it from topping. Pretty much the only ways to catch AIDS are from bottoming or drug needles
One of the most common ways to catch AIDS was actually through hospitals at one point. Medical malpractice is still one of the leading causes of death in the United States. There were tons of cases of people getting AIDS from blood transfusions and then not going public with it and just telling people that they had cancer or pneumonia.

I know the agents / managers also take a good cut - that’s expected, but the divorce / alimony can really drain their wealth.

Guns N Roses pretty much reunited due to Slash getting divorced since his wife (who he was married to for a long time) took a good chunk of his money. I think it was less than a year from Slash getting divorced to Guns N Roses all of a sudden being able to tolerate each other again.

If Sting gets divorced you can guarantee the Police will tour again.

Eddie Murphy hasn't done anything in twenty years that wasn't terrible, with the exception of Dolemite Is My Name and he wasn't even supposed to be in that.

All these recent god awful reboots of his biggest 80s hits means he must be hurtin bad for money.

10-15% for the agent and the same to the manager. Agents are limited by union bylaws but not managers. They may collect a higher commission on non-union work, and smaller agencies might try to scam the talent by charging 20-30%.

Entertainment lawyers are required to review the contracts before signing and also collect any residuals after the work has been completed. Lawyers only get the money, they do not handle it. Salaries, advances and royalties are handled by a business manager, which also provides accounting services for tax purposes. Both business managers and lawyers receive 5% each. Some agencies provide their own lawyers, but you're still out the 5%.

20-30% + 10% is gone even if you're with an A-list agent. You could go manage your own money and save 5% and just use an accountant during tax season.

Personal assistant, publicist, stylists and security can run in the millions by themselves.

You won't get any work without an agent. It's a tax that you pay in entertainment. You have to pay to be connected to the machine. It's legalized payola essentially. You want any major part like starring in a movie or television show you need representation from one of the top agencies. Even if you casting couch your way through the business you still need an agent. Even if your parents are CEOs of Fortune 500 companies they cannot get you into an acting gig without an agent.

It's always funny when you see these A-list celebrities living in middle class houses and people are dumbfounded. Or B-list celebrities going broke and doing demeaning work like Onlyfans to make ends meet.

The business manager is optional. It only saves a few percent, but that can be millions. Look at how much Dane Cook's brother stole from him. Or all the celebs that went with Bernie Madoff.

Eddie Murphy disappeared for like a decade and now he's in every piece of shit movie and show.
Delirious and Raw are (in my opinion) the best stand-up specials ever made, but almost everything he's done after the 1980s has blown. Remember Tower Heist? Remember Meet Dave? Remember Holy Man?

When was the peak of people getting it in hospitals by mistake? How many were actually able to sue and win over the malpractice? Like you said, some people lied and said they had cancer, so I'm wondering if they didn't sue because they didn't want people to think they were a fagola.

Also, yes, medical malpractice still happens a ton in this country and everybody ignores it's a leading cause of death. Remember when every faggot was posting those gay photos of medical staffers being superheroes during COVID? Most doctors suck. People wonder why people would rather try alternative medicine, it's because the "serious" medical field is a minefield of quality.
