Can't speak to US politics or Trump really, but isn't that why you have the electoral college? So the Presidential election isn't always decided by 3 big cities?

No. Not even a little bit. 90 per cent of the population was rural when that document was written.

But the point of his US analogy was to show that tossing in Canada and Mexico to the voting pool makes as much sense as mentioning the greater London metro area population when speaking of a London mayoral election. It was kind of funny.
