I suspect Pat might have a malpractice case against his own lawyers. Shouldn't Resto have let him know that it was possible for Pat to be held liable for legal fees of anyone he identifies?

The only scenario where they succeed is the one where Quasi immediately panicks and nukes the website. Aren't lawyers supposed to plan their strategies several moves and countermoves ahead? Of course that is impossible when you have 60 potential opposing litigants that you don't know anything about.
There's no way they didn't warn him of this. I think the bigger issue could be Pat's state of mind and sanity to go through this the way he has. It's one thing to try and sue but it's a whole other thing to proceed the way he has.

If Resto can produce one document where he instructed Pat to not interact with any potential defendants, I don’t see how piggy can win on malpractice. I’m willing to guess that some sort of client agreement was signed outlining fees etc. Which I’m sure was never read.

Bingo. Briton's not a dummy like Patrick. He put paperwork in front of Patrick that would completely cover his ass in the event the case produced nothing, and Patrick signed it without reading it. Too busy fantasizing about winning the case to spend 60 seconds considering the consequences if you lose, just sign your fruity signature here, and here, and here, and here on the bottom, and here, initial here.

I think that might be one of the issues with hiring a guy who trained in wine law, in a different country, with completely different legal system (they seem to have a loose grip on "innocent until proven guilty" and I think the three judges in each court interrogate witnesses themselves) to fight a defamation case in the US.

It could be that Brinton had some wicked smart tactics planned out that relied on French law to work, and fell to shit in actual US court.

I'd love to know the story of how he went from acquiring an incredibly expensive and specialised education overseas, to defending US paedophiles (and Patrick). That's an incredible fall from grace, isn't it? There's got to be a story there.

If only we had a crack investigative reporter to look into it....
