He was drunk. That's why he was out. Looking for more booze. Someone said he was in the city that night because of the Unmast or whatever, so he was drinking at the cellar until they closed, then he probably drank every ounce of booze in his apartment to celebrate. Rather than pass out in his bed, he decided to go find a bar or a bodega to get a six pack. He probably figured "I'm Anthony of the Opie & Anthony Show" would get him in the door of some after hours club in midtown.

As to why he had his camera, I believe he had just recently bought an expensive camera, and like usual, he was obsessed with it for a few months before he gets bored and finds something else. Midtown after hours is pretty interesting, so I wouldn't be surprised if he legitimately thought he might be able to get some pictures of hookers, or homeless black guys shitting on the street, or drunk young white girls stumbling home after partying.
