EVERYONE was phoning the show in or becoming completely out of touch, such as Ant believing he could rant about race on and off the air all the time. They only cared about filling the 3 hours a day with some borderline entertaining content, but elevating the brand or promotion? It was just too much. And then all the shit they DID think of was shot down by the company. There really is no real “one incident” that lead O&A to decline besides honestly Ant getting fired because thats the thing that officially ended the show.

The death bed era of O&A had some appeal in how unheard of it was for a major corporation to broadcast a caller allowed to ramble by himself for so long, or dead silence, or the hosts walking out of the studio with the mics on. Very simple "idgaf" type bits they did use to their advantage, but it was clear then, when they watched videos, or when they would all just exhale with nothing to say and be like "So, that's in the news? Jimmy, you do anything this weekend??"

The general meandering of the show was due to mismanagement which led to Opie's role diminishing.

Opie was like the mascot for the show, he had a silly name, was always the one hyping up the gimmicks -- He rook the calls, he set the table. He even dictated the pace of the conversation, and HE was the one who made the judgement call on when something ran its course. Anthony submitted to Opie's will, because he was the co-host and his role was to React to Opie.

As a supporting character, Anthony's strength was often to play 'straight man' to Opie's silliness... Or better, Anthony would reluctantly lean-in to whatever dumb crap Opie was peddling, and it was such an odd yet so familiar sense of humor that it became funny. "Faraway Email Friday? Well... Hmm... What's the furthest Email we've gotten? Is it from Ostralya?" It was like Anthony was being held captive and it was fascinating to listen to Opie force him to play along and squirm.

OK, At the end of the show, there were no live events, no contests, no bits, no gimmicks. Opie STILL tried, even after he found out his 2 partners were colluding AGAINST him after he had already suspected it for years. Opie hung on for the millions and tried to make shit like The Apology Clock happen. Hey, that's not a bad idea to point out the fact that people were apologizing to Kikes and Nigs daily back then. Opie was tweeting like Anthony live on the air.

Opie let Anthony rant about blacks aimlessly and parrot shit he had heard on Fox News the night before. Even other racist people said "ALRIGHT! ENOUGH ABOUT THE NIGGERS!!!" Opie even turned it into a funny bit with the Candy Crush, and Anthony was self aware enough to keep the bit going by ranting even louder and saying funnier things... Opie made Anthony defensively funny, even during his random aimless rantings. Yet people act like the candy crush bit was somehow Opie "being lazy." Dude was literally setting up Anthony for the punchline by doing a bit, playing the audio into the microphone. Dumbasses like Karl act like Opie was unironically playing candy crush during the show like someone Stupid Jim who he adores. Like they CAUGHT Opie who accidentally let the sound slip that he wasn't paying attention to Anthony's brilliant ranting.

The general racism of the show was a major appeal. The DMAN was very entertained by a lot of Anthony's racism and how his mind would always go there. The fact you never heard that anywhere from any real company is what made it unique. Or the inappropriate bell which most black listeners still wouldn't understand. Still, the show had nothing going on at the time. They were in a closet.

One of the founders of XM was a hardcore O&A fan, they basically told O&A they started the company to create a platform for shows like them. Sirius didn't know anything about O&A. It was just company culture, they fumbled a legendary comedy brand because they didn't even know about it, to the point that it's so obscure right now it's sad. At one time O&A were on track to become as infamous a duo as any other. As it stands today they're just another random troupe who broke up and started nitpicking each other. But the 30th anniversary reunion will of course remedy that temporary situation.

If you're talking about "watching something 10 years removed from context," of course there are going to be highlights, when you cherry-pick from 10 years.
Context shouldn't matter here. Either you can listen to/watch the bit 10 years later and be entertained, or not. Which WNEW clips would you consider to be still genuinely funny? My old favorite was "Kathleen, put your god damn clothes back on", and that stunk when I re-listened to it recently.
Also, all of the newer clips I mentioned in my original post were from a 3 year period.

Meanwhile they were at WNEW for only 4 years, and created the formula and consistently hit homeruns. If you weren't there, of course you're not going to know. If you go by YouTube, there is barely any pre XM content up other than full unmarked shows.

The shock jock shit is the only thing that holds up. And playing clips to make edgy jokes over them is still shock jock material. You can happily keep the same 3 punchlines about homosexual-sex parroted by Anthony and Jim. The DMAN will keep the WNEW years where everyone included listeners were invested.
I was one of the "snooping through your parent's stuff" kids and I still have my ticket from the second celeb softball game. I have more than enough context to judge the old shit against the new shit, and having a girl rub her phone against her bush or shoving a bat into some porn star's cunt was only entertaining because of the shock value. It was so charmless and edgy for the sake of being edgy. If the only thing that makes it funny or entertaining today is "because it's from the 90s and that shit was crazy back then", then it's not actually funny or entertaining anymore.
And if you think the repetition of dumb jokes was bad in the in the 2010s, you clearly don't remember how bad they'd beat their jokes and bits to death on WNEW. AIDS! AH PU-SAAHH! CRINKLE CRINKLE!

They didn't start the show making noises and then going "Ahhh.. Soo..... What's going on today?.... anything in the paper...?"
There's no denying how lazy they got towards the end, and a lot of those shows were just mindless filler, but that comfortability and complacency led to more organically funny moments than most of the pre-planned bits ever did.

I agree with what you’re saying here. In fact my favorite era is the XM and SXM days. You can list so many, which I won’t do, from both years which are classics and defined the show. Even in the last 2 years we got Lady Di’s internship and Tequila and Donuts day, so it’s not like the show was completely devoid of producing good content. It’s simply that due to the personal relationships of all three of them and duh corporate culture they were beat down from trying to grow bigger than being at the little dwogie company…Thats why i said theres no real point of decline for the O&A show apart from Anthony getting fired. All of the shit like the merger or personal beefs they could survive but not when one of them tweets their belief that all niggers are violent animals:
Opie let Anthony rant about blacks aimlessly and parrot shit he had heard on Fox News the night before. Even other racist people said "ALRIGHT! ENOUGH ABOUT THE NIGGERS!!!" Opie even turned it into a funny bit with the Candy Crush, and Anthony was self aware enough to keep the bit going by ranting even louder and saying funnier things...
Disagree with that last bit…He did not find it funny. He has complained to this day about how Opie playing Candy Crush was demeaning to him, lied about it saying Opie would play it while bits were happening (then saying while Anthony was doing the news…then finally contributing “racial discussions”.), and calling it gay Tetris. Go back and listen to those clips you can hear he’s not happy to be put on the pay no mind list while he’s having his “intellectual discussions”.

The racial shit was an absolute low point of the show. The zombies will have you believe that its because “you’re offended”, but its because it came out of nowhere. Relisten to the tape when Obama got elected and pick out the “racial humor” in there. Now of course this lends to what you’re saying though…that tape is also GREAT because Opie is setting up Ant perfectly, of course egging on his racism but more than that mocking how insane he’s being over all of this. Of course, sometimes you pump things up for duh show, but as we’ve seen with Cumias twitter he was actually toning himself down.

Anything they did with Dice back then is funnier than them watching an episode the FUCKING HAPPY DAYS, Satellite White Nigger.

Those were Stern copycat bits. None of the sex stuff was funny, but it wasn't MEANT to be funny. It was promotional and marketing based primarily and it's the reason why they had enough interaction to make friends and create regular guests. For a show that wasn't purely a comedy show, it was funnier than most scripted comedy.

And if you think the repetition of dumb jokes was bad in the in the 2010s, you clearly don't remember how bad they'd beat their jokes and bits to death on WNEW. AIDS! AH PU-SAAHH! CRINKLE CRINKLE!

There's a difference between a sound drop (the Otto lines) and Jim Norton's poison that ruined the show. Yet another side effect of Satellite White Niggerdom. Yes, shows have catch phrases. That's a lot different than Anthony and Jim fake laughing at each other's kinky jokes to deliberately drive Opie insane. Make a mudslide with your fist, stupid.

Of course he hated it, because he took it as a personal attack. The DMAN is referring to the point where Opie kept turning up the volume on the music and Anthony began to rant louder knowing he was being drowned out by the music. They both played along, and it was the perfect payoff for everyone who had to sit through Anthony's rants when it became beyond boring.

But yes, Anthony likely drunkenly ranted about how Opie was playing Candy Crush during commercials or during Anthony's SCARY IMPORTANT racial debates with himself where he would interrupt anyone who uttered anything. At the very least, Opie produced 1 punchline out of him for it. But The DMAN wouldn't say that, because he hasn't taken any shots at Anthony lately, and would like to keep it that way.

You're right, and I originally wrote that the Dice mockery is the only thing that still makes me laugh, but it was part of a paragraph that I deleted. The rest of your post is nonsense

Everything The DMAN said is true and factual, AIDS and CRINKLE CRINKLE were Stupid Norton jokes.

They didn't handle that bit right in my opinion but it probably had to do with behind the scenes stuff. They got threatened with a lawsuit from Turner's representative and some theater owners as well. It could have gone on a lot longer with better followup but it quickly disappeared from what I remember. At the time it was one of the all time greatest show moments though. It was talked about in pretty much every art and acting social circle in NYC because of how absurd of a prank it was.

You honestly didn't laugh again when Paul demanded his Ticketmaster surcharge back for his tickets when they kicked him out? Or when he argued with the usher and security staff that her nudity was offensive for public display? I laugh every single time when instead of just leaving the venue he asks them if they will refund not only his tickets but the other associated charges with a straight face.

Anything with "hot" women on the air was funny to me when I was younger. Now it just gives me the creeps and disgusts me. Especially when women were basically gang raped by staff members at least once. And Anthony and Norton were a bunch of closet queers who liked to humiliate and embarrass women more than actually watch them be sexual. It was just a sick atmosphere looking back. At the time it seemed like a bunch of horny dudes thirsting after women.

But knowing that two-thirds of them were huge faggots it is more grotesque knowing the truth.
Everything The DMAN said is true and factual, AIDS and CRINKLE CRINKLE were Stupid Norton jokes.

XM had a bunch of O&A fans in its corporate structure. And management listened to the show every day. Sirius hated all of O&A though

Howard did a way more degenerate and disgusting show than O&A ever did on Sirius. He had porn whores and sex machines and all sorts of sick perverted jew filth from day one until the end of his first contract. O&A's top ten most gross shows on all of Sirius probably don't even get into Howard's top 100.

They did stuff like the "Gay Off Contest" one time. Howard had 100 contests and bits ten times as faggy. Some of Howard's extra shows on his channel for a while were basically softcore porn for his weirdo audience to beat off to like a freaks.

Sirius basically died just like XM on the day of the merger. They no longer were satellite radio companies but were car companies. Because they counted sales of cars with an un-activated Sirius radio in them as being subscribers. It was no longer about content but about car deals.

Siobhan had one of the grosses segments of all time - nothing I can think of comes even close.
