Greece isn't some desert though, it has vast forests, lakes and snow. Swamps are about the only thing that doesn't exist or is very rare. I'm not saying northern Europeans were stupid, the Renaissance proved that. However history proved they didn't do much in the ancient times and it was Mediterranean Europe that did the heavy lifting for the continent at that time.

Seems like a somewhat odd way of looking at it, as there was no united Europe against others, and the Greeks, like everyone else, were serving their own interests. Understandable. Really, everyone was fighting one or more of their neighbors most of the time, and thats where their energy went besides food acquisition/production. Those tribes nearest to the earliest successful empires (thanks to climate, yada, yada..) adopted or adapted what worked militarily, etc. Naturally those things took more time to cross the alps and wilds to the north. I don't see a really significant IQ difference between peoples of Mesopotamia, Southern Europe, or Northwestern Europe. Not a major factor compared to environmental factors, resources, and distance, imo. Didn't intend to be this wordy, oof.
