How did this fruit get so famous?

Mario is a (gay)saint on Ert!

I remember he roasted Dennis Leary and he was one of the few with a genuinely good set. But besides that one time, I've never taken to his stand-up.

But his cinema knowledge is impressive, I admit. He discussed Rear Window with Mankiewicz (who I can now never look at the same way, thank you for that @ミスタースパーコル) and they both had very interesting observations about it.

I am a professed nerd about things like this. If I could have a personal conversation with Eddie Muller, the founder of The Film Noir Foundation, I'd just keep my fucking mouth shut and listen to anything he wanted to say.

I suppose you could say I'm a man who could never understand how to conduct behind a camera, but I at least know how to pick up a guitar.

Exactly. O&A’s best shows MOG any of the boring shit youtube has pushed me from Howard. Luis Spick vs paranoid negro Patrice, Mastic Stinks, Vos vs Everyone, or the roasts of Norton, Vos, and the old show? Far better than any of the Stern crew’s babbling

From what I've noticed, a lot of Howard's best stuff has been copyright struck by his boys in the office. That's one of their jobs now to keep his image clean, per the rumour and innuendo.

I have plenty of old stuff I never find on US YouTube or anywhere nowadays. It's a shame, because it's true classic shit. One of my favourites still is their group discussion about Robin's new book after they all got early copies. One of the funniest roastings of each other I've ever heard.

I mostly know him from his appearances on OnA and he was a tremendous guest

I'm not sure if anyone questioning why Howard is famous is old enough to remember what life was like pre-internet. Howard was the only easily accessible place you could go to for shock content and porn stars and edgy interviews and pranks. He's a pathetic old ghoul now but there was literally nothing like his show in the 80s and early 90s.

Right. This talk format is so ubiquitous that we take it for granted. Celebrities sitting in for an interview and getting asked about intimate details didn't exist before and he was hugely influential on what followed. Without Howard there's no O&A and without O&A, there's no open format comedian podcasts.

I wouldn't say Howard was a pioneer, but he was the crest of the wave.

There's 2 books he wrote himself that explain it. He was in the right time at the right place.
Exactly. It's like asking how did that gay song "Disco Duck" sell six million records. It's confounding to think of in 2024 but if you were around back in the day you'd understand.
