My best friend growing up was gay. I guess I should have known. I remember in like 2nd grade when we found a Playboy and all he did was bitch & complain about each woman and what he didn't like about them. He and his family were going to move away and he said he wanted to tell me something and he was like "I I I....I don't like Mexicans..." HAHA HOLEE SHIT. I guess it would have been hilarious if I was Mexican and we had been friends for almost 10 years and he said that right before moving away. Then when MySpace popped off a few years later he sent me some message telling me he was gay. I remember looking at his page and he had a bunch of Zac Efron pictures everywhere and I had that Clint Eastwood gif reaction.

The first time I ever encountered someone openly, obviously Jewish, I was already well into my twenties, halfway through University. Perhaps I'd met stealth ones prior to that, but I had no idea. Not too many of them in rural Wales.


And as I was raised casually, apathetically and culturally Anglican/Protestant, I didn't realise until adulthood that Jesus and his apostles were Hebrew. The kids' KJ bibles we had at school were all illustrated with white blond people, and the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical cast white western Europeans & Americans as well, so how was I to know.
