I heard Christopher Nolan does something similar. He has two computers in front of him while working - one with internet access, the other without. He writes on the second one and only uses the first to look up something directly related to what he's writing. Of course, he has the self-discipline to stick to his own rules and isn't a fat, self-indulgent drunkard.

But if you're the type of guy who feels the need to tell people your number when in you're in your mid 40s chances are it's a very low number. Good call on 17 being a fake number. It looks random, but it's actually a prime number, which makes it more rare than numbers divisible by 2, 5, 10, etc. It's totally a made up number.
