HISTORICAL STEREOTYPES:
Jim Crow: Jim Crow was a black character played by whites, emphasizing the physical and mental characteristics of blacks at the time. Such characteristics included his dark skin, tattered and worn clothing, and dancing and jumping for the white man. Sound familiar?
Sambo: The character of Sambo was derived to mock black people who appeared “happy, usually laughing, lazy, irresponsible, and carefree.”
Mammy: “The Mammy archetype describes African-American women household slaves who served as nannies giving maternal care to the white children of the family, who received an unusual degree of trust and affection from their enslavers.” Anthony exemplifies this stereotype but split into two factors: He receives an exorbitant amount of trust from his white superiors while also giving to the care of white children, although not in the typical fashion you would think of.
Mandingo: “stereotype of a sexually voracious black man with a nice pieeeeceee invented by white slave owners to promote the notion that black people were not civilized but "animalistic" by nature.” How many times did Norton bring up, unprompted, Anthonys big “Italian” hog? How much pussy he slayed? The evidence is all there.
Sapphire: “a domineering black female who consumes men and usurps their role, characterized as a strong, masculine workhorse…who’s strong demeanor drove away her children or partners.” Greggshells, anyone?
Jezebel: “a sexually voracious, promiscuous black woman.” Ant’s pension for children, cheating on his girlfriends, sticking eggs up his ass…need I say more?
Tragic Mulatta: “portrayed light-skinned women as obsessed with getting ahead, their ultimate goal being marriage to a white, middle-class man. The only route to redemption would be for her to accept her "blackness."” Sound familiar? The only difference here is that Ant has yet to seek redemption and accept his blackness.
Uncle Tom: “represents a black man who is simple-minded and compliant but most essentially interested in the welfare of whites over that of other blacks.”
Black Brute: “generally depicted as being highly prone to behavior that is violent and inhuman. They are portrayed to be hideous, terrifying black male predators who target helpless victims, especially white women.
CONTEMPORARY STEREOTYPES:
Crack addicts and drug dealers: The media regularly portrays black people as addicted to crack and dealing it, destroying their own communities in the process.
Welfare Queen: “depicts an African-American woman who defrauds the public welfare system to support themselves” Anthony Cumia defrauded a private welfare system (Gregg Hughes) because he was too lazy to get a job. And oh yeah, whats this?
The Magic Negro: “A stock character who appears in a variety of fiction and uses special insight or powers to help the white protagonist.” What else did Anthony do when doing radio with Opie other than act as a magical negro? He used his African witchcraft to conjure success for the show. Plain and simple.
Angry Black Woman: “depicted as loud, aggressive, demanding, uncivilized, and physically threatening, as well as lower-middle-class and materialistic.”
Education: “It is notably difficult for a black woman to receive the resources needed to complete her research and to write the texts that she desires.” Who failed out of High School again?
Mental and Emotional Distress: “Due to the angry black woman stereotype, black women tend to become desensitized about their own feelings to avoid judgment.“
“They often feel that they must show no emotion outside of their comfortable spaces. That results in the accumulation of these feelings of hurt and can be projected on loved ones as anger.”
