This is Andre Oakley reporting for ONA. Earlier today, we heard that former radio host and one-half of the duo Opie & Anthony, is officially retiring from his podcast. Opie, a rock Radio jock, and Anthony, an air conditioner repairman, became infamous for their "twisted" sense of humor, and cruel pranks that landed them in hot water with local and federal government. Cumia's solo efforts however have been labeled by ex-listeners as "Half-a-Show." His former colleague, radio superstar Ron Bennington, was quoted as saying that Cumia does an "Alt Right Show." Cumia's solo venture was first broadcast from his basement in New York. The announcement, which many experts have called "predictable" and "inevitable," comes after a week of Cumia blowing off his responsibilities and not appearing on his own show. The self-described "Toxic" radio duo Opie & Anthony, which will continue to live on in infamy, separated just 9 years ago. In 2014, Anthony Cumia left the industry, when he was fired by SiriusXM in a scandal that the disgraced shock jock has never recovered from. ■

He should have retired shortly after he got fired - people would be left with the ( somewhat) pleasant memories of him in O&A, which would have given him somewhat of a legacy.

Instead, he's punished his few remaining fans with nearly a decade of increasingly unfunny, incoherent content, plunging him further and further into obscurity. He's quit trying to be funny, and now is more well known for getting beat up by a black woman, getting catfished by a 40 year old man pretending to be a 14 year old girl, and fucking a tranny than he was ever known for being "funny".

That would have been the move to make, he would have been in demand again long before his money ran out. Not sure he'd know how to monetize that demand but it reminds me of a story I heard about CSK when he was getting fired from his job on the police force, he panicked and tried to hide, Dice told him to ride the wave of infamy and book every club in the US for headliner money. Kenny did the safe thing and still has his pension, but he still needs to work to afford his lifestyle. If he listened to dice he would have had at least a solid year of gigs at 10-20 grand each. He'd be set for life. In nana's case he could have moved down south right away and set himself up in a nice place, then he could make money doing every kkk rally, white trash wedding, and eventually right wing podcast in the country. He could get back with Jennifer and she could shoplift 2 shirts at a time so he could wear different shirts for each show and he'd be known down there as the colored guy who tells it like it is, better than Chris Rock.

I don't think he had the finances to retire. It seems like Anthony thought that he and Norton would start their own podcasting company and quit Sirius together. When he got fired and Norton refused to follow him he had to reinvent himself as a political pundit and basically excise the comedy from his act. His long term planning got blown up by his 'scaffolding photography obsession'.

We know that Anthony wanted to leave O&A and be on his own for his last contract and split the show up. So Opie would do mornings with Sam and someone else. And Anthony would do nights with Norton four days a week or whatever secret fag plan he and the Worm were cooking up behind Opie's back.

I don't think with Anthony's lifestyle that he could have retired in 2014 without major downsizing.

I do like the idea that Norton led him on and then abandoned him, he really is an awful person. I’m betting he did that just to keep his options open in case he got fired. Then he just kept the sirius gig while nana circled the drain.

He should have just done a regular, audio podcast instead of the stupid network shit.

The fact he felt the need to add a visual element to a show with nothing going on is so bizarre. Let alone taking on other shows.

This moron was building "the anthony cumia network" in his basement, and had the gall to attack Opie for being "selfish" because SXM changed the name of his channel to The Opie Channel. How dare he!

Meanwhile how many times has Cumpound changed names and logos? Nice branding, stupid.
