Saying nonchalantly that you’re traveling for work is a passive aggressive way to make yourself sound more important than you really are.

I bet he doesn’t mention the part where a) he’s paying for it, b) he’s going to be transporting his own books back and forth, and c) he doesn’t have an actual job.
