Opie and Anthony were very obviously ripping off Stern but never admitted it. Sterns ability to do edgy radio and be a millionaire is what they fucking dreamed of and got. But instead of accepting that they had their own thing going they got insanely insecure at any mentions of similarities.
The “Opie and Anthony army”, for as much as O&A won’t admit it, was a real ass term they used regarding their fans. There wasn’t an irony in it until one of them probably realized how fucking stupid it was and retconned it, not like Pests is any different a concept.
“The hot tub incident”
O&A was at it’s peak around 2005. This fame evidently got to their heads and convinced them that they were a hot item. By 2014, they had no bargaining power for anything. They couldn’t have gotten paid more or gone anywhere else, but everyone, especially Opie, treated the show as if it was still in it’s prime and people didn’t have iphones yet.
