Any other comic would have been an awful third mic. Jim was only good because he contributed so little or was out so much that the third mic became a revolving chair of comedians. I can’t imagine how awful the O&A show would be if the third mic were Vos, Bobby, or Dipaolo. Patrice being on the show constantly would have made everyone hate him or it would turn the show into a constant black vs white thing which was already happening a shit ton after 2008

opie is legitimately enjoyable to listen to on the wnew broadcasts. he sounds exceptionally more comfortable and confident than he did during the siriusxm days

Opie knew what Norton was doing, so he overcompensated by giving Norton too much credit and weight on the program especially at the end. Opie gave up because Norton, a pet fool who existed only because of Opie's insistence, had grown into a spoiled animal who wanted the house for himself.

Norton really used Anthony as much as he did Opie... It's just that the benefits from Opie's coattails were far more fiscally useful. Norton used Aintfunny, on the other hand, and all but abandoned him since. Norton was TRASHING Opie for years about how miserable it was working with him, how Opie sucks, and yet Norton STILL stuck with the financial security that Opie afforded (and always did to all of them) versus the fun-loving freedom of meandering 70s references and gay flirting between Norton and Aintfunny.

They have ALL snubbed each other and yet somehow Opie is the only problem in the Pedo camp. If you listen back to the period before Opie found out Anthony was deliberately bashing him and trying to work against him - versus POST finding out about it... Opie cared about the BUSINESS that he owned with Anthony until he found out about that. After that moment, the show was just a whatever effort. And even then, he still couldn't help himself from defending the show against manchurian PDs like Tim Sabean who were spies from Howard.

When you find out your 50/50 business partner is bashing you behind your back to everyone at work when you're not around plus the third guy who YOU brought on is joining in on it... Yeah you'd be a bit "off" and maybe play some candy crush to take that easy million while they ruin the show.

They never needed a third. It threw off the whole dynamic. It's called Opie & Anthony but they have 3 fucking guys? How stupid is that?

And Anthony knew his role as the dancing monkey. Ope ran the show, pointed to Anthony and said, "dance." And Anthony would dance. And his monkey trick resulted in hilarious bits.

Norton made Ant believe he was more than the dancing monkey. It's obvious he's not. He desperately needs direction. He's great when he has it. Norton ruined that dynamic.

Norton made Ope have to be funny because they had their little, exclusive clique. Ope should have never needed to try to be funny. Just point to the monkey. It ruined Ope.

That's how I see it. I'm probably missing a lot and probably wrong

Almost every home station O&A ever had wanted them to dump Norton. WNEW didn't want him, K-Rock didn't want him, XM didn't want him, Sirius didn't want him. They all knew better. To be fair, WBAB and WAAF management said the same thing to Opie about Anthony.
