I implore all of you to watch the movie Gaslight starring Ingrid Bergman and Joseph Cotton.

It's where the term comes from, and for an older film taking places in the 1800's, its tone and atmosphere is strikingly modern.

Watching it again recently with Mal, I thought back to Pat. Just because ones an idiot doesn't mean they don't know how to manipulate.

Here's something to consider. Fat has never once said "OK hun, I'm off to work. See you tonight" the sentence every man who has ever lived with a woman in modern history has said, with the exception of criminals, ghetto filth and royalty. Think about that. She's left the house to go to "work," if you can call it that. He never has. Not once in their relationship. That alone counts as some kind of abuse in my book.

There was that 6 hour shift at Target...

Edit: She was probably so happy and proud of him. Even if it was just a cashier's job at Target, at least he was going to work. He was going to have a regular paycheck and be able to contribute to the household bills. I bet she was floating on air all day, happy for once in the relationship. Imagine the crushing depression when 6 hours later he had already quit. "Retail is just not my speed, child".
