When someone says "I lost $200 gambling" they usually lost like $2K or more. When someone says "I am up $500" it means that they won $500 in their last bet but overall are probably down like $8K. This is something that Artie would talk about on Stern and other shows. He would say "I'm up right now" which meant he was only up that last week compared the entire rest of the NFL season where he blew $250K. When Anthony would talk about his gambling swings you can assume not only that all of it amount to a loss but that the amount was much higher than the figure he revealed on air.
Another thing is that he had to have been losing a good low six figures early in his gambling career to attract the attention of the casinos. They were sending him free limos and drivers to and from the casino. Giving him free hotel rooms in the casino. And even giving him his own high roller's table to gamble at. This was not because of free plugs on the air but because Anthony was gambling like a maniac. When casinos know they have a big spender they will spend big to lure you back. Owning Mahowny.
Anthony is lucky he is not a big sports better. No one throws more away than sports betters (maybe high roller dice players). I know two poker pros who won over $10million in tournaments and cash games who went broke. One went broke on sports betting and was so addicted he was throwing away millions on regular season hockey and Olympic evens. And another who once won like $800K in a tournament and then blew it all in one night playing roulette.

On the rare occasion I go to a casino I get pissed and dejected after losing as little as $100. I can't imagine blowing hundreds of thousands in an Atlantic City casino and thinking "I'm having fun and they HATE THAT!!!!"
