Took me awhile to get into the Mondays but now they're one of my favorite bands. At first I heard "Little Matchstick Owen" and thought it just sounded like a retarded guy over terrible noise. After watching 24PP a few times they grew on me a lot. I even saw them live when they toured with Psychedelic Furs before I really dug/understood their shit. I guess I first listened to them as a super opinionated kid and then maybe it was no coincidence I had gotten into weed/ecstasy and such before I started really liking them. Pills, Thrills, and Bellyaches is groovy as fuck all the way through. Don't know why they haven't been sampled by hip hop shit more, if they were at all.
That movie is tons of fun though.
There was a quote by someone famous about that movie that was something like "The biggest cunt in music played by the biggest cunt on TV."
I didn’t realize how much that whole scene influenced rock. Would there have been bands like Blur, Oasis if the whole Manchester scene never took off ? Being American, this is really cool stuff
I should give them more of a chance. The sampling thing is spot on. You can only sample “funky drummer” so much

Oasis were different from that whole scene as were Blur brit pop as it's labeled wasn't really a scene but a moment.
I guess the jump from happy Mondays to stone roses to Oasis isn't a huge jump but I don't remember if the stone roses even made the film. Noel was at the hacienda as a teen so was influenced in a way but not really musically

He used to go the the hacienda as a member of the public before that sweetheart don't try and fucking correct me on pointless indie trivia or I will rip your fucking eyelashes out one by one and force you to listen to the kooks and not even their debut album.
Don't mind a bit of indie bollocks now and then, I'm not too good for it and it can be nostalgic. Though I couldn't listen to it all the time.
Some Kooks, Strokes, Virgins or Libs songs are decent. I'm happy with Razorlight as well, 'Pop Song 2006' is one of my favourites of theirs.
A worse threat would have Snow Patrol, Hoosiers or The Pigeon Detectives--all utter wank.
I once saw razor light ( i brought the tickets for a girl who is now dead) and they opened with a drum solo before he ran on stage shirtless.
Its been years now and I still can't get over it. The warm up act was a band without a drummer but a tap dancer instead. In a fucking arena.
I was watching the James Brown doc the other day. The drummer was talking about everyone not wanting to record that day/being exhausted after a show but JB made them go to the studio and make stuff up. “What’s that song called? ‘Funky Drummer’? I hate that song”

He can be as big a cunt as he wants as long as he keeps doing partridge content. The newer series are still good and hold up better than the old stuff the audiobooks he does are great
